Lincoln University, PA – The Golden Bulls basketball team regrouped from a slow start to put away Lincoln University (PA) 74-53 Saturday evening inside Manuel Rivero Hall. JCSU improves to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while the Lions still search for their first win at 0-5. Lincoln is not officially a conference participant this season; however their contests count towards the CIAA standings.
Nearly eight minutes had gone by in the first half, before JCSU scored their first basket. Sophomore center
Michael Cooper (New Rochelle, NY) hit two free throws to break the scoreless drought and cut Lincoln's lead down 12-2.
Basketball is a game filled with scoring runs and in true fashion a JCSU run was sparked. After Cooper's free throws, the Golden Bulls went on a 14-5 run and by the 5:13 mark had a 20-19 lead. Johnson C. Smith never looked back, going into halftime with a 30-23 advantage.
The Lions trailed by as much as 24 in the second half and finished shooting 31.1% from the field (14-45). Johnson C. Smith shot 63.6% from the floor in the second period (21-33) and 57.4% field goal percentage for the game (31-54). The Golden Bulls outscored Lincoln 18-10 in the paint.
Senior forward
Jerry Hollis (Charlotte, NC), freshman center Delonta Boyd (Washington, D.C.), and Cooper all produced 12 points and at least three rebounds. Hollis had three boards, Boyd had four, and Cooper seven.
Darren Clark and Denzel Mooney scored 15 and 14 points, respectively for the Lions. Lincoln lost the rebounding battle 42-26.
The Golden Bulls will continue on their northern conference road trip when they face Bowie State University on Monday, November 30th. Tip-off against the 2-2 Bulldogs is scheduled for 7:30 pm inside A.C. Jordan Arena.
