LADY GOLDEN BULLS HANDED FIRST LOSS 63-49 AGAINST BOWIE STATE ON THE ROAD

First loss of the season for JCSU

Bowie, MD – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team let their first game of the season get away 63-49 Monday afternoon against Bowie State University inside A.C. Jordan Arena. JCSU moves to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the CIAA, while BSU improves to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
Sophomore guard Terran Quattlebaum (Mitchellville, MD) hit a three-pointer and connected on one free throw to give JCSU a small cushion early. J.C. Smith held a 17-9 lead with eight minutes remaining in the first half.  The Lady Golden Bulls offense went cold from there and Bowie State took control.
The Lady Bulldogs scored 16 unanswered points and went into halftime with a 27-20 advantage. JCSU committed 17 first half turnovers and was outscored 12-4 in the paint. Quattlebaum had 10 points at the break, shooting 50% from the three point line (3-6).
Johnson C. Smith trailed the entire second half; the Lady Bulldogs pushed their advantage to as much as 21 with three minutes remaining. Bowie State scored 38 points in the post, compared to just 18 to JCSU. The Lady Golden Bulls lost the rebounding battle 42-30 and finished shooting 35.7% from the field (20-56).
Bianca Lee was the top scorer for BSU with 15, followed by Teaunsha Robinson with 10 points. Bowie State shot 47.8% from the floor (22-46) and 53.3% from the free throw line (16-30).
Quattlebaum had a team-high 15 points, three rebounds, and two steals. Senior guard Shakira Clarke (Toronto, CN) and junior guard Tyra Breaux (Baltimore, MD) finished with six and five points, respectively.
JCSU will return to the court in CIAA divisional action against Chowan University on Sunday, December 6th. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm inside the Helms Center Gymnasium.
