Bluefield, WV – The No. 18 Lady Golden Bulls basketball team picked up a 74-48 non-conference victory over Bluefield State College Saturday afternoon from the Ned Shott Gymnasium. The win improves JCSU to 8-1 overall, while Bluefield remains winless at 0-6.

BSC took their one and only lead of the contest off a three-pointer from Kelly Pawlowski. Pawlowski put Bluefield up 13-12 with 11:32 remaining in the first. The Lady Golden Bulls quickly regained after back-to-back jumpers from senior guard Shakira Clarke (Toronto, Canada) and sophomore guard Terica Jones (Raleigh, NC).

J.C. Smith held a 30-23 advantage at halftime after a made three from junior guard Shakeena Cunningham (Buffalo, NY). JCSU shot 36.4% from the field in the opening (12-33). Junior center Brittane Neely dominated early with a half-high of eight points and nine rebounds.

Bluefield appeared clearly outmatched in the second period. A lay-up from Neely gave JCSU their first double digit lead (36-25) four minutes into the half. With 7:12 on the clock, the Lady Golden Bulls rattled off a three-minute, 14-0 scoring run to put the nail in the coffin. This was the largest margin of victory for JCSU this season.

Senior wing Sheria Hatcher (Flint, MI) scored 10, followed by Jones with nine points after a 7-for7 night from the free throw line.
