REGGIE SULLIVAN SIGNS WITH THE CAROLINA PANTHERS TO PLAY CORNERBACK

Charlotte, NC - Former Johnson C. Smith student-athlete Reggie Sullivan signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent on Tuesday, May 26th. Sullivan, (6'3, 218 lbs) joins the Panthers' secondary as a cornerback.

Sullivan, a native of Miami, Florida, transferred to JCSU from Winston-Salem State University. He played for the Golden Bulls during the 2007 season at the safety position. That year, Sullivan recorded 21 tackles (14 solo), one sack for a loss of 11 yards, and one interception returned 69 yards in nine games.

"Reggie is hard working, mild-mannered, and a great team player, he'll be an awesome fit for the Panthers' organization," says JCSU head football coach Steven Aycock. This upcoming season will be Aycock's first as head coach; however he has been on the coaching staff since 2004 as the assistant head coach. Aycock recalls Sullivan's talent, "He's smart, and he takes it off the chalkboard onto the playing field."

Sullivan played for the Tennessee Valley Vipers of the Arena 2 Football League in 2008. Coach Aycock spoke with a Panthers' scout about a tryout for Sullivan and the rest is history. "Reggie has been steadfast in prayer for this opportunity and I know he'll make the most of it," says Aycock.

The Panthers are currently carrying 29 rookies on their roster including Sullivan. Carolina has signed 79 players to their roster, which excluding their seven draft picks this year and All-Pro defensive end Julius Peppers.
