JCSU VOLLEYBALL BEAT BY CONCORD 3-0 IN SEASON DEBUT

Tough start to the 2009 season

Charlotte, NC - The Lady Golden Bulls volleyball team was defeated by Concord University in three sets (25-17, 25-6, 25-15) inside Brayboy Gymnasium on Friday evening. The match marked the season opener for both schools. Concord, who competes in the WVIAC, moves to 1-0 overall, while JCSU drops to 0-1.

Sophomore setter and team captain Alexis Webb (Durham, NC) had three kills, seven digs, and a team-high seven assists. Junior middle hitter Mauranda Elliott produced a game-high 16 digs, along with three kills.

Jennifer Heelems had five kills and 14 assists to lead the Lions. Amber Miller added seven kills, four digs and a .500 hitting percentage.

"We still have a couple quarks to work out, we're a young team," said JCSU head volleyball coach Emerald Fulmore. "The goal is to continue improving as the season progresses and if we keep the right attitude, that'll happen.

Johnson C. Smith returns to action on Tuesday, September 1st against Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC. The first set is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.
