JCSU lose back-to-back conference games

Elizabeth City, NC - The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team lost 74-65 to Elizabeth City State University Saturday evening inside the RL Vaughan Center. JCSU drops to 7-5 overall and 2-4 in the CIAA, the Vikings improve to 7-5 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
 
The Golden Bulls were held to a record low 38 points in a 54-38 loss to ECSU earlier this season (11/23/09). In this one, JCSU scored 12 field goals in the first half (12-26) and shot 62.5% (5-8) from the free throw line for 35 points. 

JCSU was up 35-27 halftime and led by as much as 14 in the first half, but were outscored 47-30 in the second half to drop their second game to Elizabeth City State this season. J.C. Smith turned the ball over 18 times and were beat 18-2 in points off turnovers. The Golden Bulls shot 40.4% from the field (21-52), but ECSU won the points in the paint battle 26-18. 

J.C. Smith shooting percentage dropped from the first half to 34.6% from the floor (9-26) and 28.6% from the FT line (2-7) 

Senior forward Dante' Drummer (Norfolk, VA) had a team-high 12 points, including a 4-for-4 night from the free throw line. Senior forward Brian Mobley (Charlotte, NC) scored 12 and grabbed six rebounds. Senior counterpart Jerry Hollis had an all-around game with 11 points, eight boards, four blocks, and three assists. Junior guard Ronald Thornhill had 11 points, including three three-pointers and five rebounds.

ECSU had four finish with double figures in points, led by freshman Angelo Sharpless off the bench with 18 points. 

The Golden Bulls jump right back into conference action on Monday, January 11th against St. Paul's College. Game time is slated for 7:30 pm inside Brayboy Gymnasium. Monday's game will be recognized as OrthoCarolina Fan Night in appreciation of our corporate sponsor OrthoCarolina.
