Despite a 3-0 loss to St. Augustine's, the Lady Golden Bulls improved and finish with the best record since 2003

Raleigh, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's volleyball team fell shy of finishes the season with a double digit win total after a 3-0 (25-17, 25-7, 25-15) loss to CIAA Southern Division champion Saint Augustine's College Friday evening inside Emery Gymnasium. JCSU concludes the season 9-19 overall, 5-12 in the CIAA, and 2-8 in the Southern; the Lady Falcons finishes 22-8 overall, 16-2 in the conference, and 10-0 in the division.
Despite an unfortunate outcome on the court, the Lady Golden Bulls tripled their total wins this season after a 3-27 finish in 2009. Johnson C. Smith also had the most wins this year since the 11-14 finish in 2003 under head coach
Mark Raley.
J.C. Smith put forth the best effort in the first set though losing 25-17. The Lady Falcons dominated the the second set 25-7 and won the third 25-15 after honoring their seniors.
Junior outside hitter
Tahlia Jolicoeur (Marietta, GA) led the Lady Golden Bulls with six kills and junior setter
Alexis Webb (Durham, NC) added 11 assists and three digs. Junior outside hitter
Jennifer Williams (Mitchellville, MD) had 10 digs and three kills.
The Lady Falcons had a huge advantage in kills (39-15) and service aces (10-1). Their attack percentage was .341 while the Lady Golden Bulls had 21 attack errors.
The top four teams in each division advance the CIAA Championships. JCSU concludes the regular-season in the fifth spot in the division. The 2010 CIAA Championships will be held Nov. 5-7 at Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, Virginia. The official tournament pairings will be released early next week.
