Both Golden Bulls chosen as 2nd Team selections

Complete List of All-CIAA 1st & 2nd Teams

Hampton, VA
– Johnson C. Smith University senior wide receiver Jeremy Franklin (Casselberry, NC) and junior punter Tyler Rabb (Shelby, NC) were proudly named to the All-CIAA Second Team by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association on Wednesday morning. This is a fourth time selection for Franklin (first 2nd Team selection) and a first time selection for Rabb.

Franklin ends his career as a Golden Bull as the school's all-time leader in receptions (206) and receiving yards (3,154) as well as an All-CIAA career selection. Surprisingly, Franklin was voted to the 2nd Team despite being second in the conference in receptions (55) and receiving yards (823). Franklin had his best season since his sophomore performance with 64 catches, 984 yards, and nine touchdowns. This year Franklin caught five touchdowns and leads the team in all receiving categories.

Rabb earns his first spot on the All-CIAA team after his first season of competition. Last season Rabb redshirted after transferring to JCSU from the University of Tennessee. Rabb has done a phenomenal job in the punting game for the Golden Bulls this year. He is averaging 42.9 yards per punt on 36 punts with a long of 69. Rabb's punting average has him ranked eighth in NCAA Division II Punting and first in the conference.

J.C. Smith finished 2-8 this season, including a 26-13 victory over Livingstone College in the Commemorative Classic season finale. Franklin had a strong career as a Golden Bull, but only saw 11 victories after three consecutive three win seasons and this year's two wins.

Equally surprising as both Golden Bulls slipping to the 2nd Team is the omission of senior quarterback Ryan Carter (Charlotte, NC) to the all-conference team. Carter is first in the CIAA in passing yards (2,129), 10th in rushing yards (434), and first in total offense (2,563).

This year's All-Conference Team is led by Offensive Player of the Year, Walter Sanders of Saint Augustine's College. Sanders leads the conference in rushing 137.7 ypg, 15TDs, 1377 total yards for 277 attempts. Walter also ties for 2nd in CIAA scoring (90pts), 2nd in all purpose yards (1461) 146.1ypg and ranks 9th in the conference in total offense.

Defensive Player of the Year, Malcolm Jenkins represents the Elizabeth City State University Vikings, where he ranks first in conference sacks with 13 (12 solo/2assisted); first for tackles for loss (14 solo/9 assisted) for an average of 1.85yds per game. Jenkins is also responsible for four fumble recoveries this season.

Virginia State University's Justin Parker is Special Teams Player of the Year. Parker tops the CIAA's Field Goal category- finishing 8 for 8 (100 pct.) with a long of 40yds. Justin ranks 2nd in PAT kicking, 32-34 at 94pct.

The players of the year and the All-Conference first team will be formally recognized at the CIAA Football Championship Luncheon on Friday, November 12, 2010 at the Raleigh Marriott Crabtree Valley. This event begins at 12:00pm and is by invitation only.
