Milwaukee, WI – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team fall to the Tigers of St. Paul's College 75-69 in the consolation game of the 2010 Fresh Coast Classic held at the Wisconsin Lutheran College. JCSU moves to 2-2 overall after their second non-conference loss to a CIAA institution, while SPC improves to 2-2.
The Golden Bulls found themselves trailing in this one early. St. Paul's got off to a 7-0 start before senior guard
Ryan Carter (Charlotte, NC) drilled a three pointer at the 17:30 mark of the first half. Soon after the score, J.C. Smith went on a 7-0 run of their own to pull within one (11-10) of the Tigers. JCSU tied the game up twice before taking a lead off a jumper in the lane from sophomore forward

A lay-up from Smith with 2:37 on the clock would retake the lead (31-30) for the Golden Bulls. However, St. Paul's closed out the first half outscoring JCSU 11-4 and going into the half with a 41-35 advantage. The Tigers shot an impressive 55.6% (15-27) from the field in the first, compared to 42% (11-26) from J.C. Smith. Freshman forward

Michael Cooper (New Rochelle, NY) with seven.
Johnson C. Smith trailed by as much as 10 in the second half. Maurice Reevey completed an old fashion three point play, making his free throw after being fouled on a made jumper. Down 53-43 with 15:16 remaining, the Golden Bulls produced a 12-4 scoring run to tie the game for the sixth time.
In the final five minutes of the contest, St. Paul's was able to maneuver towards victory with inside play and solid free throw shooting. Johnson C. Smith shot 50% (3-6) from the field and the free throw line (1-2) in the last five minutes of the ball game.
JCSU won the rebounding battle 37-32, but only shot 39% (13-33) in the second half. Junior guard
Trevin Parks (Hickory, NC) and Smith led the Golden Bulls in scoring with 13 points apiece, Parks also had five assists and four boards. Williams and Cooper chipped 10 points apiece and sophomore center
Delonta Boyd (Washington, D.C.) followed with eight points of his own.
Ibn Rassoull and Kedrick Williams paced the scoring for St. Paul's with 21 and 14 points, respectively.
The Golden Bulls will see little time off before facing Campbell University on Monday, November 29th in Buies Creek, NC. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm inside the John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center.
