Golden Bulls avenge loss and split season series with LC

Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team bid farewell to their senior in Brayboy Gymnasium Saturday evening with a 66-60 divisional win against Livingstone College. JCSU concludes the regular season 18-9 overall, 12-8 in the CIAA, and 6-4 in the Western Division; while the Blue Bear finish 11-14 overall, 8-11 in the conference, and 3-6 in the division. 

Newly named All-CIAA selections Jerry Hollis (Charlotte, NC) and James Dillard (Apex, NC), along with Brian Mobley (Charlotte, NC) and Dante' Drummer (Norfolk, VA) gathered their last cheers in the gold and blue in front of a Brayboy crowd. 

JCSU tussled with Livingstone in the first half, but held a 26-22 lead at halftime. Dillard had seven points and eight boards at the break, followed by Mobley and junior guard Ronald Thornhill (Alberta, VA) with six points apiece. Hollis had eight rebounds and two blocks, however only scored three in the opening. 

The Golden Bulls had a lead for over 16 minutes of the second half. Livingstone allowed JCSU to improve their shooting percentage by 20% in the second period. Hollis exploded for 17 second half points and four student-athletes scored double figures. 

Hollis had a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds with five blocks in his Brayboy finale. Dillard had 18 points and 10 boards, while Mobley finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds (nine defensive). Thornhill popped four three-pointers for 12 points. 

Jarred Stockton had 18 points and eight rebounds for the Blue Bears. Megail Cannon and Greg Henry had 15 and 12 points, respectively. 

J.C. Smith will enter the 2010 CIAA Tournament as the 5th seed, meaning they will play on Thursday, February 25th for their opening game. Official brackets and schedules will be released by the conference office.
