Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's tennis team defeated Saint Augustine's College 8-1 in CIAA Western Division match play on Wednesday afternoon at the Coleman-Cuthbertson Tennis Courts. The Golden Bulls improve to 13-11 overall, 8-2 in the conference, and 3-1 in the division.
Senior captains
Jason Stuckey (Cincinnati, OH) and
Aaron Hutcherson (Cincinnati, OH) started the route with an 8-0 win against Marcel Harley and Demetrios White at the No. 1 doubles position. Sophomores
Robert Butts (Atlanta, GA) and
McKenzie Bean (Hamilton, Bermuda) trumped their opponents 8-3 in No. 2 doubles. Junior
Jamil Jones (Atlanta, GA) and sophomore
Jerald Stuckey (Cincinnati, OH) defeated Coyatito Smith and Miles Roe by the same 8-3 score.
The Golden Bulls dominated singles play in the first five positions.
Jerald Stuckey had some trouble against Roe with a (6-3, 6-3) loss at the No. 6 single spot. Stuckey may have suffered a leg injury during competition.
JCSU beat the Falcons in Raleigh, NC 9-0 and today's win earns a season sweep.
Johnson C. Smith will return to Raleigh, NC to face Shaw University on Saturday, April 3rd in divisional play. Shaw pulled off a 7-2 victory against JCSU on the Coleman-Cuthbertson Tennis Courts less than a month ago. The Golden Bulls will be looking to avenge their only divisional loss.
Match play is scheduled for 2:00 pm on the campus of Shaw.
