Salisbury, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's softball team won game one 5-2, but dropped game two 11-7 in a CIAA Western division doubleheader against Livingstone College Tuesday afternoon. JCSU improves to 10-18 overall and 6-5 in the conference, while the Blue Bears move to 5-13 overall and 1-10 in the CIAA. 

J.C. Smith scored two runs in the second inning to break the scoring drought. With bases loaded, senior centerfielder Mauranda Elliott (Tabor City, NC) and junior catcher Samantha Smith (Whiteville, NC) were both walked to score senior first baseman Nijah Braddox (Brooklyn, NY) and junior pitcher Allycia Watanabe from third. 

Livingstone scored a run in the third off fielding errors in the infield. JCSU ran up the score in the fifth inning with three more runs. Smith stole home, junior shortstop Kawehi Chan (Honolulu, Hi) scored on a wild pitch, and sophomore second baseman ShaDella Reese (Atlanta, GA) singled up the middle to score Braddox. 

The Blue Bears produced another score in the sixth, but could not mount a comeback. The Lady Golden Bulls earned a 5-2 victory heading into game two. Watanabe won her eighth contest on the mound with nine strikeouts and only two hits allowed. 

JCSU lost control of game two early. By the start of the third, Johnson C. Smith faced a 10-0 deficit. Smith, Elliott, and Watanabe scored runs in the third inning to draw closer (10-3). Livingstone allowed one JCSU run in each of the remaining four innings, but held on for an 11-7 win. 

Watanabe pulled double duty and suffers the loss. She had three strikeouts, but gave up 14 hits. 

The Lady Golden Bulls return home for a non-conference doubleheader with Morris College on Thursday, April 1 at Biddleville Park. First pitch is slated for 2:00 pm.
