Atlanta, GA – The Johnson C. Smith University women's track and field team competed in the Georgia Tech Invitational for the final qualifying meet before the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships. Georgia Tech hosted the qualifying meet at Griffin Track, which saw the Lady Golden Bulls entered in the 100m hurdles, 100m and the 4x400m relay.
In the 100m hurdle preliminaries, junior
Shermaine Williams (13.17, SB) and sophomore
Rosemarie Carty (13.37, PB) had their best races for the season. Both student-athletes qualified for the event final. In the final, Williams (13.16, SB) and Carty (13.65) placed third and sixth, respectively. Three participated in the 100m. Williams (11.86) placed second in her preliminary heat four. Sophomore
Monique Kelly (12.38) placed fifth in heat five and junior
Lakaevia Tyler (12.14) won heat six.
The JCSU combo of Carty, Kelly, Tyler, and Williams combined for seventh in heat one of the 4x400m relay. The team completed the assignment in 3:53.18 seconds. The meet was the final one before the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships scheduled for the Irwin Belk Complex on May 27-29, 2010. The JCSU women are currently ranked ninth in the USTFCCCA national rankings.
