Sabrina Johnson tallied 10 kills and eight digs in the five-set victory over Shaw

Raleigh, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's volleyball team topped Shaw University 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium. JCSU improves to 2-7 overall and 2-5 in the CIAA, while the Lady Bears still search for their first win at 0-6 overall.
Junior outside hitter Tahlia Jolicoeur (Marietta, GA) led the Lady Golden Bulls with 12 kills and a .222 hitting percentage. Freshmen Sabrina Johnson (Columbia, SC) and Shameka Randolph (Orangeburg, SC) each tallied 10 kills and Johnson had eight digs. Freshman defensive specialist Vernisha Silver (Rocky Mount, NC) scooped up 15 digs, followed by junior outside hitter Jennifer Williams (Mitchellville, NC) with 12 digs and five kills in five sets.
After falling behind two games to one, JCSU battled back to trump Shaw in the fifth and deciding set. The Lady Bears lost the final set 15-9 after winning the second and third sets 28-26 and 25-20 respectively. J.C. Smith won the first and fourth sets 25-20 and 25-19.
Freshman setter Kayla Bazemore (Fayetteville, NC) had an all around performance with a team-high 32 assists, six digs, five kills, and a block.
The Lady Golden Bulls recorded 50 kills and 60 digs in the five-set conference match.
Johnson C. Smith now prepares for the upcoming 2010 CIAA Volleyball Round-up hosted by Fayetteville State University on September 18-19th.
