GOLDEN BULLS FALL A DRIVE SHORT IN A 25-21 LOSS TO BREVARD ON MCGIRT FIELD
JCSU led at the half
Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University football team dropped their first home game of the season to Brevard College 25-21 on Saturday afternoon inside Irwin Belk Complex. JCSU moves to 1-3 overall, while Brevard improves to 2-1 overall.
The Tornados struck first and quick. Known for running an option offense, Brevard scored on a 65-yard run from Kelvin Jeter. Jeter finished the day with 124 yards on the ground off 11 carries and two touchdowns. J.C. Smith responded with an eight play, 59-yard drive capped off with a one-yard QB sneak touchdown by senior quarterback

Johnson C. Smith held a 14-13 advantage after the first half and added to it in the third. Carter found freshman receiver
Chrishawn Rhyne (Winston-Salem, NC) in the corner of the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown completion. Rhyne caught his third touchdown of the season on the play (leads the team in TD receptions).
After a 48-yard pass from Michael Crumbaker to Jeter and six run plays, Brevard marched 76 yards for a score. JCSU prevented the two-point conversion rush attempt and held a 21-19 lead.
The Golden Bulls had their drive shorten after an interception on third and two by Salonik Amos; he returned it 37 yards to the JCSU 25. Brevard scored in five plays after a 15-yard touchdown run from Jeter to claim a 25-21 advantage. The Tornados attempted a two-point conversion again, this time freshman defensive back
Kamau Brown (Atlanta, GA) intercepted the pass.
The score would remain 25-21 until late into the fourth quarter. On the final JCSU drive, the Golden Bulls faced a fourth down with nine yards to go, 2:11 on the clock, and no timeouts. Carter's final pass attempt was incomplete, intended for Franklin.
