Proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation
Charlotte, NC – Johnson C. Smith University will acknowledge Breast Cancer Awareness month during the Golden Bulls versus Winston-Salem State football matchup with pink ribbons on the student-athletes helmets, game day staff will be wearing pink, and collecting donations as well as offering pink ribbons and paraphernalia for sale; a portion of the proceeds from sales will go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, October 2nd at 6:00 p.m. inside Memorial Stadium.
With the JCSU-WSSU game being the first athletic contest in the month of October, the University has decided to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) (also referred to as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM)) is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer.
As well as providing a platform for breast cancer charities to raise awareness of their work and of the disease, BCAM is also a prime opportunity to remind women to be breast aware for earlier detection.
We proudly support the University's initiative and the football program with dedicating this game to
acknowledge Breast Cancer Awareness Month, said Senior Woman Administrator and head Women's Basketball coach Vanessa Taylor. “The women's basketball program, along with the University has a similar initiative during basketball season with the Think Pink and Pink Zone games; and we generate support towards the Komen Foundation as well.”
Since 1982, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation has played a critical role in every major advance in the fight against breast cancer – transforming how the world talks about and treats this disease and helping to turn millions of breast cancer patients into breast cancer survivors.
