Fayetteville, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's volleyball team dropped their first divisional match against Fayetteville State University 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-13) on Wednesday evening inside Capel Arena. JCSU moves to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the CIAA, while the Lady Broncos open their 2010 season with a victory (1-0).
J.C. Smith fell behind early in the first set and was unable to recover. FSU recorded 11 kills on 15 attack attempts for a .600 hitting percentage in the initial set. The Lady Golden Bulls bounced back in the second set with a solid attack for a 14-7 lead halfway through. However, JCSU let their lead slip away with Alea Jones on the service line for Fayetteville State.
FSU eventually captured the advantage and closed out the second set 25-18. The Lady Golden Bulls displayed on defensive miscues in the third set and Fayetteville State once again produced 11 kills off 23 attack attempts for a .304 hitting percentage. Johnson C. Smith trailed for the entirety on the third set and loss the set 25-13, thus losing the match 3-0.

Samantha Meeks had 12 kills for the Lady Broncos and Achari Mainor dished out 21 assists in the victory.
Johnson C. Smith returns to action on Saturday, September 11th for the CIAA Round-up hosted by Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, NC. JCSU will match up with Chowan University at 10:00 am, followed by a 2:00 pm contest versus Virginia State University. On day two of the round-up (Sunday, September 12th), the Lady Golden Bulls face Virginia Union University at 10:00 am and then St. Paul's College at 2:00 pm.
