Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team remains unbeaten this season with a 68-57 win over Lincoln University (PA) on Wednesday afternoon inside the Grady Cole Center. JCSU improves to 10-0 overall and 3-0 in the CIAA, while Lincoln moves to 1-9 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
After two postponements due to inclement weather in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area, both teams were restless and ready to play. The Lady Golden Bulls showed some rust early and fell behind 8-0 in the first 90 seconds of the game. Senior guard
Shakeena Cunningham (Buffalo, NY) scored the first seven points for JCSU to make the contest closer. At the 12:56 mark, junior guard
Terran Quattlebaum (Mitchellville, MD) converted on a fast break lay-up to put J.C. Smith ahead 11-10 and the team did not trail again.
Johnson C. Smith went into halftime with their largest lead of the period (30-21). Lincoln was outscored 14-2 in the paint, 16-0 off turnovers, and 7-2 in second chance opportunities.
The Lady Golden Bulls closed out the Lincoln Lions despite shot 31% (23-74) from the floor. JCSU was consistent from the free throw line, shooting 80% (20-25). Three players scored double figures and two nearly produced a double-double.

LaQwesha Gamble (Winter Haven, FL) led the way with 12 points, eight rebounds, and five steals. Cunningham and junior guard
Shavonda Price (Ft. Wayne, IN) both chipped in 11 points. Senior center
Brittane Neely (Arlington, VA) produced eight points, 10 rebounds, and four steals. Quattlebaum and senior guard
Tyra Breaux (Baltimore, MD) each scored eight points to round out the top scorers.
Brittney Waters had a game-high 20 points for Lincoln and Mfon Ekanem had an impressive double-double of 11 rebounds and 10 blocks.
“I knew we would come out a little slow after having two days off with the snow, but the rest may have done us some good,” said head coach and reigning CIAA Coach of the Week

JCSU returns to action on Thursday, January 13th against St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, VA. Tip-off for this conference match-up is scheduled for 5:30 pm inside the Taylor-Whitehead Gymnasium. J.C. Smith knocked off St. Paul's earlier this season (12/13/10) 71-46 at home.
