Big women's CIAA matchup

CHARLOTTE, NC - The women's basketball contest between Johnson C. Smith and Virginia State University on Saturday, January 15th originally scheduled for 5:30 pm has been moved up to 2:00 pm due to the recent inclement weather patterns.

With the ice storms battering the region, both schools agreed to move up the start time for safety precautions for traveling visiting team and the host. Saturday's game will only be a women's contest; the JCSU men faced VSU prior to the holiday break (12/16/10).

“The athletic director at Virginia State (Peggy Davis) and I have agreed to this change,” said JCSU athletic director #Stephen Joyner, Sr#. “Because of the recent snow and ice fall we all felt that an earlier start was best for safety of teams, the game operation staff, and the general public.

The Lady Golden Bulls are off to the best start in the program's history at 10-0. JCSU is 3-0 in the CIAA and head coach Vanessa Taylor was named CIAA Coach of the Week for the second time this season this week. VSU currently holds a 7-3 overall and 1-1 conference mark. JCSU returns to action on Thursday, January 13th against St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, VA. Tip-off for this conference match-up is scheduled for 5:30 pm inside the Taylor-Whitehead Gymnasium. J.C. Smith knocked off St. Paul's earlier this season (12/13/10) 71-46 at home.
