Lawrenceville, VA – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team made four of their last five free throws down the stretch for an 81-80 win against St. Paul's College on Thursday evening inside the Brunswick High School Gymnasium. JCSU improves to 9-4 overall, 5-0 in the CIAA, and earn their seven straight victory.

The Golden Bulls current winning streak started with an 80-77 victory over St. Paul's in Brayboy (12/13/10). This contest was also tight until the finish. JCSU held a 35-22 lead with 4:17 remaining in the first half. The Tigers scored 14 unanswered points, including a three-pointer from George Leseur at the buzzer for a 36-35 advantage at halftime.

The second half had a back and forth pace and the game reached its ninth tie (70-70) with 2:45 left to play. Back to back baskets from senior guard Ronald Thornhill (Alberta, VA) and sophomore center Delonta Boyd (District Heights, MD) gave JCSU a 77-74 lead with 30 seconds remaining on the clock. Thornhill was fouled on the next offensive possession and only made the second free throw for a 78-74 lead.

Leseur made another three with eight seconds left to play to cut the J.C. Smith lead to one (78-77). With time close to expiring, the Tigers were forced to foul. Sophomore guard Trevin Parks (Hickory, NC) made two free throws and freshman forward Robert Williams (Atlanta, GA) hit one-of-two FTs to put JCSU ahead 81-77. Kedrick Williams made a three as time expired to account for the final score (81-80).

Parks had a game-high 28 points with six rebounds and five steals. Boyd reached a new season-high with 19 points and nine boards. Thornhill produced 11 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Senior forward Earl Jackson (Temple Hills, MD) rounded out the scoring with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Williams led St. Paul's with 16 points, along with 14 points and eight rebounds from Ibn Rassoull.
The Tiger had a better field goal percentage shooting 43.8% (28-64) compared to 37.7% (26-69) for the Golden Bulls. JCSU out-rebounded St. Paul's 53-43 and outscored them 32-20 inside the paint.

The next matchup for Johnson C. Smith will be on Monday, January 17th against Virginia Union University inside Brayboy Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in this non-divisional CIAA contest.
