Box Score vs. Livingstone

Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team rolled up an 84-66 CIAA Southern Divisional victory over Livingstone College on Saturday evening inside a filled-to-capacity Brayboy Gymnasium. JCSU improves to 12-4 overall, 7-0 in the CIAA, and 1-0 in the division with their 10th straight win. The Blue Bears move to 7-5 overall, 3-5 in the conference while dropping their first division contest.

Sophomore guard Trevin Parks (Hickory, NC) was the usual scoring suspect with a team and game-high 29 points. Parks also had six assists and two steals. JCSU never trailed in the ball game. Livingstone faced a 43-26 deficit at the end of the first half. The Blue Bears had a quick scoring jolt in the second half, cutting the JCSU lead down to six with 10:30 remaining. However, the Golden Bull extinguished that LC flame by outscoring them 25-13 down the stretch.

J.C. Smith shot 47.4% from the floor (27-57), unlike the 32.4% shooting from the Blue Bears (24-74).
Freshman forward Antwan Wilkerson (Greensboro, NC) had a double-double of 11 rebounds (8 defensive) and 10 points. Sophomore Delonta Boyd (District Heights, MD) had another solid game with 14 points and eight rebounds. Junior guard James Otey (Roanoke, VA) filled up his stat line with nine points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Senior guard Ronald Thornhill (Alberta, VA) chimed in with eight points, five boards, and three dimes.

“We played well, particularly in the first half, but we ultimately closed out the ball game,” said head coach #Stephen Joyner, Sr#. “Trevin is still playing strong; good to see Antwan (Wilkerson) get his first double-double, I think he's capable of doing that more consistently. Hopefully his performance tonight is a sign of things to come.”

Darius Cox had a team-high 27 points and 10 rebounds for Livingstone. JCSU is 8-1 in their last nine games versus the Blue Bears.

The Golden Bulls get a week off before their next divisional bout against Fayetteville State University on Saturday, January 29th. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. inside Capel Arena.
