Tigerville, SC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team win their fourth straight with a 68-49 victory against North Greenville University on Tuesday evening inside Hayes Gymnasium. JCSU improves to 15-1 overall and 8-0 in non-conference action; while the Lady Crusaders move to 6-10 in the overall standings.

Once J.C. Smith found their rhythm, they dominated the first half shooting 51.7% (15-29) from the floor. North Greenville committed 13 turnovers in the opening, while JCSU outscored them 19-4 off turnovers. NGU shot 27.6% from the field (8-29) and trailed 41-25 going into the locker room at the half.

Despite only shooting 29.6% (8-27) in the second half, the Lady Golden Bulls held a lead for the entire period. JCSU pushed their advantage to its largest margin (68-41) with 2:04 left to play. Junior guard LaQwesha Gamble (Winter Haven, FL) paced the scoring with a team-high 13 points with six rebounds (all defensive), and three steals.

Johnson C. Smith won the rebounding battle 44-33, while outscoring North Greenville 20-5 off second chance opportunities and 26-14 in the paint.

Freshman forward Racquel Davis (Bamberg, Germany) had an enthusiastic performance off the bench with 12 points, three rebounds, and two steals; shooting 83% (5-6) in the post. Senior center Brittane Neely (Arlington, VA) and junior guard Terran Quattlebaum (Mitchellville, MD) each pitched in eight points, while junior guard Shavonda Price (Ft. Wayne, IN) dropped in seven points and six rebounds.

Karly Stache was the triggerman for the Lady Crusaders with a game-high 14 points, including 4-of-6 shooting from the three point line.

“I felt like we responded well tonight with our intensity,” said head coach Vanessa Taylor. “Sometimes playing on the road and against a non-conference opponent, you can lose focus, but we stepped up to the challenge. We worked well as a defensive unit, we held another opponent under 50 points and it's our goal to be one of the best defensive teams in the CIAA.“

JCSU returns to the court for another road game, this time against divisional foe Fayetteville State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside Capel Arena in Fayetteville, NC.
