– The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team smothered Fayetteville State University defensively en route to a 60-32 CIAA Southern Divisional win on Saturday evening inside Capel Arena. JCSU extends their winning streak to five and improves to 16-1 overall, 8-1 in the CIAA, and 2-0 in the division. The Lady Broncos fall to 5-13 overall, 3-6 in the conference, and 0-2 in the Southern.

The Lady Golden Bulls held the lead in this ball game from beginning to end. Junior guard Terran Quattlebaum (Mitchellville, MD) got the scoring started with back to back three pointers and things just snowballed from there. JCSU held Fayetteville State to 17 points in the first half (30-17) and allowed the least amount of points to an opponent this season.

Junior guard LaQwesha Gamble (Winter Haven, FL) produced a double-double with a season-high 17 points, 11 rebounds (8 defensive) and three steals. Quattlebaum followed with 14 points, including 4-of-7 (57%) shooting from the three point line; both season-highs in three-pointers made and percentage. Senior guard Tyra Breaux (Baltimore, MD) had 13 points and six boards, while junior guard Shavonda Price (Ft. Wayne, IN) chimed in with eight points.

Fayetteville State received solid contributions from Je'Lena Robertson with 10 points and five rebounds and Tiffany Haywood with 10 rebounds and five points. Johnson C. Smith forced 25 turnovers.

The Lady Broncos swept J.C. Smith last season (0-3), including a 2010 CIAA Tournament elimination (72-58) in TWC Arena. JCSU off to a great start this season and stay unbeaten on the road (7-0) and in the division with the win. These two teams met again on Monday, February 7th at 5:30 p.m. inside Brayboy Gymnasium in Charlotte, NC.

Johnson C. Smith stays on the road for their next contest against Winston Salem State University on Monday, January 31st. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
