Johnson C. Smith 0-2 against the Wildcats this season

Box Score vs. Johnson & Wales

Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's volleyball team took a 3-1 loss against Johnson and Wales University on Monday evening inside the JWU Student Center. JCSU moves to 4-17 in the overall standings after the non-conference shortfall.

This match was originally scheduled to be played in Brayboy Gymnasium. These two teams met approximately three weeks ago. Johnson and Wales won in a five set decision at home. Looking for an opportunity to even the score in Brayboy, but a full Homecoming itinerary occupied the gymnasium.

With the game relocated to the Johnson and Wales Student Center, the Lady Golden Bulls were up for a challenge. JCSU grabbed an early advantage with a 25-20 victory in the first set. Sophomore setter Kayla Bazemore (Fayetteville, NC) paced production with a match-high 19 assists throughout the contest. Bazemore also tallied four service aces, three digs, and a kill.

The Wildcats appeared to be more energized over the next three sets. Fresh off a four-day road trip from Boca Raton, Florida in the Pepsi Bash Tournament; the Lady Golden Bulls lost some stream in the contest. Johnson C. Smith fell (25-16, 25-20, and 25-18) in three straight sets despite winning the first.

Sophomore hitter Sabrina Johnson (Columbia, SC) had a team-high 11 kills with a .304 hitting percentage. Senior captain Jennifer Williams (Mitchellville, MD), sophomore Amber Alexander (Miami, FL), and freshman Shaquanna Jackson (Greensboro, NC) all had six kills in the contest.

Taylee Tellechea led the attack for JWU with 11 kills, three service aces, and two solo blocks.

Johnson C. Smith is approaching their final home match of the season. JCSU will face Saint Augustine's College on Tuesday, October 18th at 6:00 p.m. in Brayboy Gymnasium. Seniors Alexis Webb (Durham, NC), Jennifer Williams, and Tahlia Jolicoeur (Marietta, GA) will be recognized in their final home appearance.
