Lady Golden Bulls Volleyball has two more opportunities for victory in Brayboy this season
Box vs. Winston-Salem State
Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's volleyball team dropped a divisional match to Winston-Salem State University 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-19) on Tuesday evening inside Brayboy Gymnasium. JCSU moves to 4-14 overall and 2-9 in the CIAA.
J.C. Smith struggled to remain consistent on offense through all three sets. In the first set, JCSU fell behind 18-10. Sophomore hitter
Sabrina Johnson (Columbia, SC) caught fire from the service line for four consecutive points. Johnson C. Smith closed the gap and drew within three (21-18). However, the Lady Rams stole the set with strong play at the net (25-22).
The Lady Golden Bulls held the lead early in the second set (6-4). But the set soon echoed the pattern of the first and JCSU trailed 17-7. Winston-Salem managed to jump out to big leads then fight off the JCSU comebacks. The Lady Rams won in straight sets in spite of the enthusiastic Brayboy crowd in attendance.
Freshman hitter
Amber Alexander (Miami, FL) had a team-high five kills and a service ace. Sophomore setter
Kayla Bazemore (Fayetteville, NC) had a team-high 10 assists and two digs.
Johnson C. Smith will hit the road to participate in the Pepsi Volleyball Bash at the Beach Tournament hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida. JCSU will face Shepherd University on Friday, October 7th at 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, October 8th, the Lady Golden Bulls challenge Carson-Newman College at 12 noon then Palm Beach Atlantic at 4:00 p.m.
