Complete Game Notes

THE EVENT: The Golden Bulls football team challenges their second consecutive divisional opponent on the road this week. The Shaw Bears will host JCSU during their homecoming contest in Durham County Stadium. J.C. Smith went toe-to-toe with No. 16 Winston-Salem State last weekend in Bowman Gray. But the Rams prevailed with a 28-10 homecoming win. Johnson C. Smith is on a two-game skid after the loss to WSSU. After scoring 95 points in the first two games, the Golden Bulls' offense has only produced 17 points in the last three contests. The defending CIAA Champion Bears just picked up their first win of the season last weekend against Livingstone. Shaw topped the Blue Bears 54-0 and held LC to just 33 yards of total offense. JCSU is looking to show that Livingstone just was not a formidable opponent. Johnson C. Smith can make a statement with a victory over the defending champs and maintain 2nd place in the CIAA South.

THE SERIES: This will be the 51st meeting between the two schools dating back to 1928. JCSU has the historical advantage over the Bears 29-19-2 including nine shutouts. J.C. Smith's largest margin of victory was a 55-2 win in 1967, while their largest loss was a 50-0 shutout in 2009. Before reinstating their program in 2003, the last time the two schools met was in 1978 when JCSU won by a score of 29-20. Shaw has won the last four meetings under Coach Asberry by big margins (2007: 45-21, 2008: 62-35, 2009: 50-0, 2010: 45-7).
