THE EVENT: Johnson C. Smith is coming off their first home loss of the season to Fayetteville State University (44-23). The loss is the second in a row for the Golden Bulls. Livingstone enters the contest on a five-game losing streak after falling to Saint Augustine's on the road. The Blue Bears picked up their first victory in three years earlier this season against Virginia University of Lynchberg in double overtime.
JCSU head coach (three-time CIAA Coach of the Week)
Steven Aycock can earn his 10th career coaching victory with a win in this game. Not only will a 5-5 overall finish equal the best season in Aycock's three years; it will be the first non-losing season since 2007.
Three-time CIAA Rookie of the Week quarterback
Keahn Wallace continues to lead the CIAA in total offense averaging 264.7 yards per game. However, an arm injury will sideline Wallace and offer an opportunity for fellow freshman quarterback
Andrew Alexander. Alexander stepped in during the second half against FSU and passed for 111 yards with one touchdown completing nine of 19 attempts. This will be his first collegiate career start. On the defensive end, junior linebacker
Michael Coats leads the team in tackles with 65 (28 solo, 37 assists). Junior defensive end
Derrick Johnson II is third in the conference in sacks with 9.5.
THE SERIES: This clash dates back to December 27, 1892. Johnson C. Smith University (then known as Biddle University) defeated Livingstone College 5-0 in the initial meeting in Salisbury, NC. The Golden Bulls lead in the all-time series (44-30-3) including four wins in the last five games. Livingstone has not been victorious over JCSU since 2008. The Blue Bears stole a 32-26 win inside the Irwin Belk Complex during the 2008 season. Since this contest has been entitled as the Commemorative Classic (2009), Johnson C. Smith is 2-0. JCSU head coach
Steven Aycock is looking for his third consecutive classic victory!
