Bowie, MD – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team breezed past Bowie State University 76-63 on Saturday afternoon inside the A.C. Jordan Arena. JCSU improves to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the CIAA, while the Lady Bulldogs move to 0-4 in the standings and 0-1 in conference play.
JCSU held a lead throughout with an exception of the first four minutes of the game. After a deadlock 6-6 tie, the Golden Bulls sparked an 11-3 scoring run to build a little cushion heading towards the 11 minute mark of the first half.
The JCSU lead grew to a first period high of 13 (27-14) with a little less than six minutes remaining before halftime. Johnson C. Smith went into the break with a 36-29 advantage. Bowie State scored a Hail Mary three pointer at the buzzer to avoid trailing by double digits going into the second half.
Both teams shot below 40% from the field in the first half. The Lady Bulldogs went 11-of-34 (32%) while Johnson C. Smith connected on 12-of-34 (35%) from the floor. Senior guard

Terran Quattlebaum (Mitchellville, MD) followed with eight points.
Johnson C. Smith had 13 unanswered points over an eight minute stretch to begin the second half. Quattlebaum splashed a three-pointer to move the JCSU lead to a game-high 20 points (52-32) with 11:26 on the clock.
Bowie State chopped the deficit down to 10 during particular moments, but trailed by double digits until the conclusion.
JCSU made good on 10-of-32 (31%) from the floor and 18-of-28 (64%) from the free throw line to maintain a hold of BSU. Johnson C. Smith went to the charity stripe 42 times in the game, converting 27 compared to 13-of-21 overall for Bowie State.
Price reached a new career-high of 23 points, along with nine rebounds and four assists. Quattlebaum concluded the contest with 14 points. Senior guard
Terrica Jones (Raleigh, NC) chimed in with 12 points and three rebounds in a reserve role.
Juliette Turner paced the Lady Bulldogs with an impressive double-double performance of 23 points and 12 rebounds. Chanet Wallace added 16 points and 16 boards for BSU.
Head coach Vanessa Taylor is rapidly approaching a coaching milestone as a Golden Bull. Taylor's current record as coach at Johnson C. Smith is 199-106. Her next victory moves her into the 200 wins club.
JCSU returns home to face Queens University of Charlotte on Monday, December 5th. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. inside the newly renovated Brayboy Gymnasium.
