Raleigh, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team dropped their first division game to St. Augustine's College 71-56 on Saturday afternoon inside Emery Gymnasium. JCSU moves to 19-2 overall, 12-2 in the CIAA, and 5-1 in the Southern Division; while the Lady Falcons improve to 14-9 overall, 8-5 conference, and 2-4 in the division.
The Lady Golden Bulls jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead in the first four minutes. St. Augustine's managed to tie then move ahead with two free throws (8-7) from Umeka Benson at the 12:23 mark. J.C. Smith trailed for the remainder of the period and faced a 33-21 deficit at halftime.
JCSU shot 36.7% (11-30) in the first and committed 20 turnovers. The Lady Falcons outscored Johnson C. Smith 16-5 off turnovers and 9-0 off second chance opportunities. Top scorer at the break was senior guard

J.C. Smith's shooting struggles continued in the second with a 27.7% (13-47) shooting from the field. SAC shot 36.9% (24-65) from the floor, 69% (20-29) from the free throw line, and 27% (3-11) from beyond the arc.
