Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball eased by Winston Salem State University for a 68-50 divisional victory on Saturday afternoon inside of a frantic Brayboy Gymnasium. JCSU improves to 14-9 overall, 10-5 in the CIAA, and 3-5 in the Southern Division; while the Rams move to 17-6 overall, 13-10 conference, and 5-3 in the division.
After a controversial buzzer beater three-pointer beat J.C. Smith in Winston Salem; the Golden Bulls made sure the game would not come down to the final seconds. Sophomore center
Delonta Boyd (District Heights, MD) gave JCSU a 12-11 lead with a score in the paint at the 11:40 mark. Next, sophomore guard
Trevin Parks (Hickory, NC) splashed a three and then JCSU began growing their advantage.
J.C. Smith was ahead 30-19 at the break. Both teams had shooting struggles in the first, but the Golden Bulls fared slightly better at 37.5% (12-32). Junior guard
James Otey (Roanoke, VA) had the hot hand with eight points, including 2-of-4 shooting from three. Boyd delivered six points and six rebounds.
The Golden Bulls maintained a double digit lead for close to the entirety of the second half. The Rams trailed by as much 27 with 5:22 remaining. JCSU hit six threes in the second half (6-11) and shot 42.4% (14-33) from the floor. Winston Salem shot 31.6% (18-57) for the game, missed all five three point attempts in the second, and turned the ball over 16 times

Paul Davis had a team-high 10 for the Rams, followed by McIntoche Alcius with nine points and six rebounds.
JCSU Athletics recognized the 2001 Golden Bulls Men's Basketball team at the start of the contest. This team won the first ever CIAA Tournament Championship and South Atlantic Regional title in school history. Perhaps their presence inspired the current Golden Bulls squad.
Johnson C. Smith will play their last home game this season against St. Augustine's College on Monday, February 21st. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside Brayboy Gymnasium. Senior
