Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's softball team fell in both games of a non-conference doubleheader against Concord University (20-0, 8-4) on Sunday afternoon inside Biddleville Park. JCSU moves to 0-8 overall, while the Lady Mountain Lions improve to 4-4 in the standings.

J.C. Smith dug a deep hole for themselves after allowing nine runs in the second inning of game one. Infield errors and delayed reactions by Johnson C. Smith resulted in a 20-0 win for Concord in the fifth inning due to the NCAA eight-run rule.

Senior pitcher Kawehi Chan (Honolulu, HI) was charged with loss, her third of the season.

The Lady Golden Bulls came out firing in game two, forcing two lead changes. Senior utility Allycia Watanabe (Waipahu, HI) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring freshman centerfielder Britney Warren (Atlanta, GA) home from third base. Junior first baseman Alexis Webb (Durham, NC) drilled a RBI single up the middle which scored junior second baseman ShaDella Reese (Atlanta, GA) from second.

Concord erased the 2-1 JCSU lead in the third inning. The Lady Mountain Lions produced three hits and three runs, including a 2-RBI shot from Kaitlyn Williams. J.C. Smith moved ahead again in the fourth inning with two runs. Senior left fielder Ashley Williams doubled to left to scored freshman Ashton Byrd (Atlanta, GA). Williams later crossed home plate off a single up the middle from Webb.

With the scored tied 4-4 heading into the fifth, JCSU unfortunately had a breakdown. The Lady Golden Bulls gave up six hits and four runs in the fifth for an 8-4 deficit. Neither team scored another run and Concord picked up the victory.

Junior pitcher Tenesha Simmons (Melbourne, FL) earned her second loss of the season.

Johnson C. Smith will square off against Voorhees College on Sunday, March 6th inside Biddleville Park. First pitch in the non-conference doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
