Raleigh, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team suffered a tough 86-77 CIAA Southern Divisional loss to Shaw University on Saturday evening inside the C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium. JCSU moves to 12-7 overall, 8-3 in the CIAA, and 1-3 in the division; while Shaw improves to 13-7 overall, 6-5 conference, and 2-2 in the division.

JCSU shot 43% (16-37) from the floor, 50% (4-8) from the three-point line and (2-4) free throw line in the first. However Shaw was more impressive with 63% (17-27) field shooting, 55.6% (5-9) three-point shooting, and perfect (4-4) at the charity stripe.

Shaw outscored the Golden Bulls 18-9 in the final six minutes to grasp the win. The Bears shot a consistent 58.6% (34-58) from the field and 73% (11-15) from the free throw line in the game.
Parks ended the night with a game-high 26 points and four assists. Boyd was close to a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Thornhill chipped in 11 points, two assists, and two steals.
This contest had 10 lead changes and five ties. The Bears beat out JCSU 40-24 in the paint and 18-4 in fast breaks. Tony Smith led the way for Shaw with 19 points and 11 assists. Raheem Smith contributed with 18 points and seven rebounds.
J.C. Smith looks to break their losing slump with the team it started with. JCSU and Fayetteville State University will square off on Monday, February 7th at 4:00 p.m. inside Brayboy Gymnasium. FSU pulled off an upset (77-73) earlier this season (01/29/11) on their home floor.
