Kingston, Jamaica - Recent Johnson C. Smith University graduate Shermaine Williams is one of the 19-member team that will represent Jamaica at the 26th World University Games to be held in Shenzen, China from August 12-23, 2011. The team consists of seven officials, seven male athletes, and Williams is one of five female athletes to compete for her country on this stage.

The majority of the delegation will leave on Monday August 8th, while the overseas based members will join up with the team on August 11th.

The team comprises of both local and overseas based University student athletes will be Jamaica's largest delegation attending the games and will be aiming to attain Jamaica's highest medal tally at the prestigious event.

Williams had a superb senior year during both indoor and outdoor seasons. She won the 100m Hurdles national title (12.95) at the 2011 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships held in Turlock, California. Her time tied a meet record, which she set in 2009. Williams ran the anchor leg of the 4x100m relay team that placed second (44.79) at the national outdoor championships. Both performances are school records. With the help of Williams' points, JCSU finished 4th in the nation at the outdoor championships (highest finish in school history).

At the CIAA Indoor Championships, Williams won the title in the 60m Hurdles, 60m Dash, and 200m Dash. She earned CIAA Indoor MVP. Williams placed 5th in the 200m and 3rd in the 60m H at the 2011 NCAA DII Indoor Championships (All-American honors). At the CIAA Outdoor Championships, Williams earned Outdoor MVP after capturing the 100m H and 4x100m relay crowns along with second in the 100m and 200m. Her event points were essential to Johnson C. Smith winning their first ever CIAA Outdoor Championship.

Williams achieved academically; graduating with a 3.77 grade point average as a Biology major. Williams was also the Coca-Cola Academic Award winner this season at the JCSU Annual Athletics Awards Ceremony. She was also one of five Golden Bull women named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track& Field Team.

Williams leaves JCSU as a 13-time All-American, 5-time national champion, feature cover athlete on the NCAA Champions magazine (Summer 2009 Vol. 2 Issue 3), and the University record holder in the 60m hurdles, 100m hurdles, 200m, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay.

The World University Games is second in magnitude only to the Olympic Games as it features over 10,000 athletes representing over 174 countries in 15 sporting disciplines. Anthony Davis and Moyann Simpson, President and General Secretary of the Jamaica Intercollegiate Sports Association respectively will attend the General Assembly August 9 & 10 as well as the University Conference August 13th-16th.
