JCSU never held a lead

Bowie, MD – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team dropped a non-divisional game to #21 Bowie State University 70-60 inside A.C. Jordan Arena on Thursday evening. JCSU moves to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in the CIAA, while the Bulldogs improve to 12-3 in the standings and 4-2 in the conference.

The Golden Bulls had their second lowest shooting percentage of the season. JCSU shot just 33% (20-60) from the field, compared to 46% (29-63) shooting for Bowie State. Johnson C. Smith was outscored 34-22 in the paint and 16-0 off second chance opportunities.

JCSU faced a 35-24 deficit at halftime. Despite winning the second half 36-35, the Golden Bulls lost the rebounding battle 45-36.

Sophomore forward Antwan Wilkerson (Greensboro, NC) had a team-high 12 points with nine rebounds. Junior guard Phillip Wood (Suitland, MD) produced a double-double of 11 points and 10 boards. Junior guard Trevin Parks (Hickory, NC) had a season-low 11 points with five assists.

Jay Gavin scored a game-high 19 points and Darren Clark along with Bryan Wilson added 11 points each for Bowie State.

The Golden Bulls jump into divisional action on Saturday, January 21st when they face Livingstone College. The contest is slated for 7:30 p.m. inside Trent Gymnasium on Livingstone's campus in Salisbury, NC.
