Trevin Parks eclipses the 1,000th point mark for his career

Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team trumped Fayetteville State University 83-75 in a divisional matchup Saturday evening inside Brayboy Gymnasium. JCSU improves to 9-9 overall, 4-4 CIAA, and 2-0 in the Southern Division; while the Broncos fall to 4-11 in the standings, 2-5 in the conference, and 0-2 in the division.

Despite a 6-0 scoring spurt by Fayetteville State to start the first half, JCSU held an advantage at halftime. Freshman guard Jimmy Joyner (Wake Forest, NC) hit a jumper the tied the game 13-13 with 12:15 remaining in the opening. Junior guard Phillip Wood (Suitland, MD) made a layup with the final possession to send the Golden Bulls into the locker room with a 51-40 lead.

Junior guard and reigning CIAA player of the week Trevin Parks (Hickory, NC) had 17 points and three assists at the break. Parks shot 10-of-10 from the free throw line and only need one point in the second half to reach 1,000 for his career at JCSU. Sophomore forward Antwan Wilkerson (Greensboro, NC) tallied eight points, eight boards, and two blocks in the first half.

The Golden Bulls pushed their lead up to 17 points (61-44) three minutes into the final period. The Broncos eventually battled back and drew within five by the two minute mark of regulation. JCSU capitalized on free throw attempts to close out the contest and still unbeaten in the South.

Parks finished with a game-high 28 points. Wilkerson produced a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds. Junior center Delonta Boyd (Washington, D.C.) contributed in the blocks with an impressive 19 points and 11 boards in a reserve role.

Tim Plummer led Fayetteville State with his own double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. John Herrington produced for FSU scoring 11 points and grabbing eight boards.

JCSU will remain in Charlotte for their next contest against Winston-Salem State University on Monday, January 30th. Tip-off for this divisional clash is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside Brayboy Gymnasium.
