Golden Bulls shoot an astonishing 71% in the first half

Lincoln University, PA – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team triumphs over Lincoln University of Pennsylvania with an 80-63 conference victory Monday night inside Manuel Rivero Hall. JCSU improves to 7-6 in the standings and 2-1 in the CIAA, while the Lions move to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Johnson C. Smith did not trail for a single second in the contest. The Golden Bulls sparked the game with seven unanswered points; including a big slam from sophomore forward Robert Williams (Atlanta, GA). An old fashion three-point play from junior center Delonta Boyd (Washington, D.C.) put JCSU ahead 26-14 ten minutes into the first half.

Lincoln faced a 41-29 halftime deficit. Everything seemed to go right for the Golden Bulls, connecting on 17-of-24 (70.8%) field goal attempts in the opening. The Lions failed by comparison with just 35.7% (10-28) shooting from the floor.

Junior guard Trevin Parks (Hickory, NC) shot a perfect 5-for-5 including three field goals from beyond the arc for 13 points. Fellow junior guard Phillip Wood (Suitland, MD) kept up the pace with 13 points of his own shooting 85.7% (6-7).

The second half showcased more Johnson C. Smith dominance. With 8:17 remaining in the game, the Golden Bulls had built a 69-45 advantage. The entire JCSU roster received an opportunity for playing time. After shooting 51.7% (15-29) in the second half; the Golden Bulls ended the evening with a season-high 60.4% shooting percentage.

Parks finished with 20 points, six assists, and three rebounds. Wood contributed with 20 points, five boards, and a block. Boyd chipped in 10 points and two rebounds. Sophomore forward Antwan Wilkerson (Greensboro, NC) chimed in with eight boards and six points in 19 minutes of play.

Lincoln had three scorers with double digit point totals. Kenny Sharpe led the way with 16 points and two steals. Justin Jackson and Jai Kellman each scored 11 points for the Lions.

JCSU outscored Lincoln 34-24 in the paint and won the rebounding battle 35-24.

The Golden Bulls will have a week of preparation before facing Virginia Union University in Richmond, VA. Tip-off in this cross divisional matchup is slated for Monday, January 16th at 7:30 p.m. inside Barco-Stevens Hall. JCSU edged the Panthers last season 73-67 at home.
