JCSU wins fourth consecutive contest

Lincoln University, PA – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team conquered Lincoln University of Pennsylvania with a 64-54 cross divisional conference win on Monday evening inside Manual Rivero Hall. JCSU improves to 10-3 overall and 4-0 in the CIAA, while the Lady Lions fall to 4-10 in the standings and 0-3 in the conference.

The Golden Bulls held a lead for the entire contest, opening up with a three pointer from senior guard Terrica Jones (Raleigh, NC). Midway through the first half, JCSU led by as much as 13 (23-10). Lincoln faced a 37-28 deficit at the break.

Jones had a team-high nine points off 4-of-5 (80%) shooting in the first half. Senior guard LaQwesha Gamble (Winter Haven, FL) followed the effort with seven points and six rebounds. JCSU outscored Lincoln 20-10 in the paint and 11-2 off second chance opportunities in the opening.

The Lady Lions made a push in the second half. Jones converted a layup at the 17-minute mark for a 43-32 JCSU lead. Lincoln went on a 16-6 scoring run over the next 11 minute to draw within one (49-48). However, the Golden Bulls' defense only allowed six more points for the remainder of the contest.

A three pointer from senior guard Shavonda Price (Fort Wayne, IN) elevated JCSU's lead back to double digits (62-52) with less than two minutes to play.

The Golden Bulls finished shooting 38% (26-68) from the floor, comparable to a 36.5% (19-52) shooting performance from Lincoln. JCSU won the rebounding battle 46-36 and forced 19 turnovers.

Gamble concluded the night with an impressive double-double of 15 points and 17 boards. Jones dropped 13 points with three assists. Sophomore center Racquel Davis (Bamberg, Germany) pitched in nine rebounds and eight points.

Lincoln received production from Sharay DuBose and Denyse Moore with 17 and 13 points, respectively.

Johnson C. Smith continues their conference road stretch next week against Virginia Union University in Richmond, VA. The game is slated for Monday, January 16th at 5:30 p.m. inside Barco-Stevens Hall.
