GOLDEN BULLS WOMEN’S TENNIS 2012 FALL SEASON BEGAN AGAINST CATAWBA AND CHARLOTTE

Felicia Akande and Nichelle Heard earn victory in No. 3 doubles

Charlotte, N.C. – The Johnson C. Smith University women's tennis team sparked the 2012 fall season at home against Catawba College on September 27th, followed by a road match versus UNC-Charlotte on September 28th. JCSU fell to Catawba 8-1 and were topped by Charlotte 7-0 at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.

Thus far, the doubles lineup has been set with sophomore Rankin Anderson (Decatur, GA) and freshman Khadijha Battle (Atlanta, GA) playing number one doubles. The experienced senior duo of Samantha Barnes (Hampton, VA) and Margaret Jones (Newport News, VA) are the number two doubles pair; while junior Felicia Akande (Winston-Salem, NC) and sophomore Nichelle Heard (Douglasville, GA) have the number three doubles assignment.

Akande and Heard trumped Caroline Cozart and Hannah Kovach of Catawba 8-5 for the Golden Bulls' only match point.
The singles lineup varied for both opponents to include junior Keiana Love (Wilson, NC) playing number two against Catawba and freshman Jasmine Riddick (Atlanta, GA) at the number six spot.

JCSU will now travel to nearby Queens University of Charlotte for a match on Thursday, October 4th. Match play is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. on the Ovens Center Tennis Courts.
