Box Score Charlotte, N.C. – The Johnson C. Smith University football team was defeated 63-7 by #4 nationally ranked Winston-Salem State University on Saturday afternoon inside Memorial Stadium. JCSU moves to 2-4 in the overall standings and 1-2 in the CIAA; while the Rams remain unbeaten at 6-0 overall and 3-0 in conference.

The Golden Bulls found themselves facing a 28-0 deficit after the first quarter. Going into the locker room at halftime, WSSU held a 49-0 advantage. The Rams just appeared to be the more superior team on this Saturday.

After the half, JCSU connected on their biggest highlight of the evening. Sophomore quarterback Keahn Wallace (Homestead, FL) found freshman receiver Fred Scott (Stone Mountain, GA) on a screen pass that went 62 yard for a touchdown. Scott finished with six catches for 119 yards and the only JCSU score of the day.

Wallace recorded 166 yards off 12-of-20 passing with one interception. The running back trio of senior Dedrick Anderson (Winston-Salem, NC), junior Denzel Hartley (Lithonia, GA), and sophomore Freddie Jones (Goldsboro, NC) carried the ball a combined 16 times for 46 yards.

Meanwhile, WSSU complied 553 yards of total offense. Quarterback Kameron Smith completed 13-of-15 passes for 259 yards and five touchdowns. The Rams had 208 yards on the ground, led by Maurice Smith with 86 yards off nine attempts and three TDs rushing.

Failing to seize red zone opportunities proved to be a major thorn for the Golden Bulls. JCSU had four chances in the red zones and could not score with any of them.

JCSU will attempt to have amnesia over the outcome as they move forward in their divisional schedule. The Golden Bulls will travel to Fayetteville, NC to face Fayetteville State University on Saturday, October 13th. JCSU has struggled this season on the road, but the Broncos are 0-3 in the CIAA and 1-5 overall. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. inside Luther “Nick” Jeralds Stadium.
