JCSU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO BENEDICT 55-37 ON THE ROAD IN SEASON OPENER

Lowest scoring point total since January 2010

Box Score Columbia, SC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team dropped their season opener to Benedict College 55-37 at the HRC Arena. JCSU is 0-1 in the overall standings, while the Tigers improve to 1-2 overall.

The Golden Bulls struggled throughout the contest to find an offensive rhythm. Benedict jumped out to an 8-0 spurt in the first half and held on through the entirety of the game. JCSU trailed 35-25 at halftime. Junior guard Karnina Bunch (Vicksburg, MS) led the way in the opening with 10 points. Senior guard Brittany Dorsett (Winston-Salem, NC) contributed with eight points at the break.

Scoring was scarce for both teams in the second half. JCSU was outscored 20-12 in the last period to account for the final. This was the lowest scoring output by the Golden Bulls since their 49-36 loss to Bowie State on January 18, 2010.

Dorsett finished with a game-high 14 points, followed by Bunch with 11 points and four rebounds. The Golden Bulls had 27 turnovers compared to 18 for Benedict.

JCSU will attempt to quickly rebound for their next contest against Paine College on Saturday, November 17th. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Paine's campus in Augusta, GA.
