Three Golden Bulls score double figures

Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team outscored Allen University (S.C.) 72-62 on Friday evening during their initial game of the Claude Saunders/Wendy's Tip-off Classic inside Brayboy Gymnasium. JCSU improves to 2-0 overall, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-4 in the standings.

The first half was a back and forth slugfest until the around the four minute mark. Allen scored off a layup to grab a 29-28 lead. That would be their last score of the half, while JCSU went into halftime on a 13-0 scoring run. The combination of senior guard Trevin Parks (Hickory, NC), senior forward Terrance Washington (Charleston, SC), and junior forward Robert Williams (Atlanta, GA) propelled the Golden Bulls to a 41-29 advantage at the break.

Parks and Washington both shot 5-of-7 from the field in the first half for 12 and 10 points, respectively. Meanwhile, Williams connected on 7-of-9 shot attempts, including 3-of-4 from behind the arc for 17 points.

JCSU lead by as much as 18 in the second half and Allen got as close as 61-57 with less than five left to play. However, the Golden Bulls never relinquished their lead in the final period. The team shot 54.5% (30-55) from the field, despite losing the rebounding battle 29-24.

Parks finished with team-highs of 24 points and six assists. Williams surpassed his previous career-high of 14 points with a 19-point performance, along with three steals. Washington shot 70% (7-10) from the floor to end the night with 14 points, seven boards, five assists, three steals, and two blocks

Richard Johnson had the biggest contribution for Allen with a game-high 28 points. Eric Russel also pitched in 11 points and seven rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.

The Golden Bulls will attempt to extend their winning streak to three games on Saturday, November 17th. JCSU will face Felician College on day two of the tip-off classic. Felician knocked off Livingstone College 79-73 in the first game of the evening. Game time between JCSU and the Golden Eagles is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. in Brayboy Gymnasium.
