Brittany Dorsett led JCSU in scoring with 13 points in the loss to Paine

Augusta, GA – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team suffered a 64-40 loss to Paine College on Saturday afternoon at the Academy of Richmond County. JCSU moves to 0-2 in the standings, while the Lady Lions improves to 1-2.
Aside from senior guard
Brittany Dorsett (Winston-Salem, NC) scoring the first basket of the game, JCSU never held another lead in the game. Paine went on a 10-0 run over the next five minutes and led the whole game.
The Golden Bulls trailed 30-14 at halftime. Paine shot 42.4% (14-33) from the floor, compared to 20.7% (6-29) for JCSU. The second half was much more tightly contested with JCSU only being outscored 34-26. The Golden Bulls improved their shooting to 42.9% (9-21) in the final period. Paine won the rebounding battle 43-25.
Dorsett finished with a team-high 13 points with three rebounds and two steals. Junior guard
Chante' Bell (Fayetteville, NC) contributed with 11 points and two boards. Junior forward
LaKendra Wilkerson (Winston-Salem, NC) was the top rebounder with six off the glass.
Ashley Watts produced a game-high 20 points and nine assists for Paine. BreAsia Burns scored 18 points, while Kiara Johnson had a double-double of 10 points and 10 boards.
This is the first time since the 1983-84 season that the JCSU women's basketball program has lost their first two games. The Golden Bulls lost to Virginia State (87-86) and Norfolk State (70-60) that year. The head coach at the time was Stephen Joyner, Sr.
The next action for JCSU will be the Catawba College Tournament on November 23-24, 2012. The Golden Bulls will face the hosting Catawba Indians on Friday November 23rd at 8:00 p.m. in Salisbury, NC.
