Salisbury, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team was stumped 60-46 by Lenoir-Rhyne University on Saturday afternoon during day two of the Comfort Suites Classic hosted by Catawba College in Goodman Gym. The Golden Bulls move to 0-4 in the standings, while the Bears improve to 2-1.

Aside from a pair of sporadic moments in the first half, JCSU faced a deficit in the initial period. Lenoir-Rhyne outscored the Golden Bulls 20-6 in the final eight minutes of the opening half. The Bears led 36-19 at halftime. JCSU was beat 13-2 in the points off turnovers category and 12-3 in bench points.

Despite having four turnovers, senior guard Brittany Dorsett (Winston-Salem, NC) had a team-high nine points at the break. Whitley Culler led the attack for the Bears with 15 points off 6-of-7 (86%) shooting in just 14 minutes of play. Culler also had five rebounds, but suffered a leg injury that forced her to leave the game.

The Golden Bulls produced a 10-2 scoring run in the first nine minutes of the second half. Unfortunately, JCSU could never get their deficit below nine (44-35) en route to losing their fourth consecutive road game.

In addition to shooting a season-low 28.6% (16-56) from the floor, the Golden Bulls missed eight of their 19 free throw attempts (58%). Lenoir-Rhyne won the game 60-46, but lost the second half 27-24 in points scored.

Dorsett finished with game-highs of 16 points and four steals. Juniors Deanna Downer (Elberton, GA) and LaKendra Wilkerson (Greensboro, NC) were next top two scorers with five points apiece. Wilkerson also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

JCSU will remain on the road and travel to Murfreesboro, NC to challenge Chowan University on Tuesday, November 27th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside the Helms Center.
