Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team dictates the tempo in a 60-42 CIAA victory over Chowan University over Monday evening at Brayboy Gymnasium. JCSU improves to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the Hawks remain winless at 0-8 in the standings and 0-1 in the CIAA.
JCSU remained in control throughout the duration of this contest. Chowan failed to get on the scoreboard until five minutes into the game. The Hawks initial points were three free throws from Janelle Murphy. The Golden Bulls held a 20-6 lead by the time Chowan scored their first goal. There was a 28-17 JCSU advantage at halftime.
In the second half, the Golden Bulls maintained a double digit lead for the entirety. JCSU never trailed in this contest en route to their most impressive victory of the season.

Talaya Lynch paced the Hawks with 11 points and four rebounds. Janelle Murphy contributed with eight points, but turned the ball over 10 times.
JCSU shot 32.7% (17-52) from the field and won the rebounding battle 46-34. The Hawks shot 28.6% (14-49) from the floor and 50% (13-26) from the foul line.
The Golden Bulls have one last game before closing out the 2012 calendar year. JCSU will travel to Greenville, TN to face Tusculum College on Wednesday, December 19th. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. inside the Pioneer Arena.
