JCSU Athletics will host a Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day on Saturday, February 4th
Charlotte, NC - The Johnson C. Smith University men's and women's basketball teams will host a faculty/staff appreciation game on Saturday, February 4, 2012. Both Golden Bull squads will take on Shaw University in a divisional matchup scheduled to start with the women's game at 5:30 p.m. inside Brayboy Gymnasium. The first 50 faculty and/or staff from JCSU will be admitted free of charge with their employee ID.
JCSU women's basketball has been on a tear this season en route to the best record in the CIAA. The team currently stands 15-3 overall, 9-0 in the conference, and 3-0 in the Southern division. In their last contest, the Golden Bulls topped Winston-Salem State to extend their winning streak to nine in a row. The Shaw Lady Bears will definitely pose a creditable test for Johnson C. Smith.
Shaw enters this matchup sporting the second best record in the CIAA. The Lady Bears are 14-5 overall, 9-0 in the conference, and 3-0 in the Southern. In addition, SU has won their last 10 games. The Golden Bulls swept Shaw during the regular season last year. However, the Lady Bears earned revenge in the post season with wins in the CIAA Tournament Finals and the NCAA DII Atlantic Regional Finals.
The Golden Bulls men's basketball team has flexed their muscle against division opponents. The team is 10-9 overall, 5-4 in the CIAA, but a perfect 3-0 in the Southern. Leading the charge is junior guard and DII Player of the Year candidate
Trevin Parks (Hickory, NC). Parks is second in the nation and leads the CIAA in scoring with 24.4 points per game.
The Brayboy home court advantage has served JCSU well; the team is 6-2 at home this season.
Shaw may very well be the toughest competition the Golden Bulls have faced all season. Last week, the Bears defeated Livingstone and Fayetteville State to raise their record to 17-2 and continue what is now a 13-game winning streak. Shaw is 9-0 in the CIAA, 3-0 in the Southern Division, and ranked #14 in the NABC DII Poll.
Both games will be action-packed and entertaining for all in attendance.
“The Golden Bull spirit will be in the air and the continued dedication of our faculty and staff is at the core of everything we do,” said Director of Athletics and head men's basketball coach
Stephen Joyner, Sr. “In recognition of their hard work and commitment to the Blue and Gold, the Athletics Department is honored to host a Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day.”
The women's game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m. Parks will be acknowledged in-between contests for recording his 1,000th career points scored at Johnson C. Smith.
