JCSU on a three-game skid

Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team lost a heart breaker 59-56 at the buzzer to Saint Augustine's College on Saturday night inside Brayboy Gymnasium. JCSU moves to 10-12 overall, 5-7 in the CIAA, and 3-3 in the Southern; while the Falcons improve to 13-9 overall, 8-4 in conference, and 3-3 in the division.

The Golden Bull outplayed St. Augustine's in the first half. JCSU held a 31-23 lead at the break shooting 44.8% (13-29) from the floor. The Falcons shot 33.3% (11-33) from the field and attempt no shots from the foul line.

Junior guard and CIAA leading scorer Trevin Parks (Hickory, NC) had a half-high of 10 points, connecting on 3-of-7 shots. Sophomore forward Antwan Wilkerson (Greensboro, NC) produced eight points and five boards in the first half for JCSU.

Wilkerson started the second half with a slam dunk over a St. Augustine's defender. The dunk had Golden Bull fans going ecstatic and Falcon faithful cringing. JCSU had their lead eventually shrunk down as regulation drew to a close.

Tyron Laughinghouse of SAC made a layup in the paint to tie the score 56-56 with 10 seconds to play. Parks brought the ball up the floor, but lost control and turned it over. The inbounds pass went to Tyquan Stroman, who pulled up on the other end at the three point line. With a hand in his face, Stroman's shot swished through the nets as time expired and the Falcons got the win.

Wilkerson concluded the contest with a game-high 16 points along with eight rebounds. Parks finished with 12 points and three assists. Junior center Delonta Boyd (Washington, D.C.) pitched in seven points and seven boards.

Laughinghouse led the Falcons with a team-high 12 points.

The Golden Bulls will attempt to get back to their winning ways as they face Shaw University on Monday, February 13th. Game time is slated for 8:00 p.m. inside Spaulding Gymnasium.
