JCSU snaps a five-game losing streak

Box Score Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team beat Saint Augustine's College 89-79 in their final road divisional contest of the regular season inside Emery Gymnasium. JCSU improves to 11-14 overall, 6-9 in the CIAA, and 4-5 in the Southern; while the Falcons move to 13-12 overall, 8-7 in conference, and 3-6 in the division.

The last time these two met (Feb. 11th), St. Augustine's won 59-56 with a three-pointer at the buzzer inside Brayboy. JCSU could not shake off those bad memories in the first half. The Falcons built a 40-34 lead in the first half with solid shooting. The Golden Bulls shot 36% (13-36) from the field, compared to 52% (12-23) shooting from SAC.

Junior guard Trevin Parks (Hickory, NC) had a team-high seven points at the break, followed by sophomore guard Robert Williams (Atlanta, GA) with six points. Meanwhile, Joel Kindred paced the Falcons with 11 points off 5-of-8 shooting in the opening.

The Golden Bulls quickly turned the tides in the second half. JCSU ignited on a 12-2 scoring run in the first 2:45 of the second period. The scoring burst had the Falcons trailing (46-42) for the first time since the 15:29 mark of the first half. During the run, Parks had eight points, a steal, a rebound, and an assist.

SAC managed to draw within one after a three from Kindred with 16:00 on the clock. However, the Golden Bulls exploded again; this time with a 13-2 scoring stretch to put the game out of reach. JCSU led by double digits for the last 12 minutes of the contest. The Falcons were outscored 55-39 in the second half.

JCSU played a completely different game in the final half. The Golden Bulls shot 69% (18-26), while holding St. Augustine's to 34% (12-35) shooting the second frame. The Falcons lost the overall rebounding battle 39-30.

Parks finished with a game-high 32 points, after erupting for 25 in the second half. Junior center Delonta Boyd (Washington, D.C.) had 11 points before fouling out. Williams concluded the contest with nine and redshirt senior Calvin Smith (Auburn, AL) had eight points.

Kindred led the Falcons with 30 points, followed by Tyron Laughinghouse's 11 points and five rebounds.

Johnson C. Smith gears up to do battle with longtime rival Livingstone College for the regular season finale. The final regular season game for JCSU is scheduled for Saturday, February 25th inside Brayboy Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. The Golden Bulls will salute their three seniors for Senior Night.
