All-CIAA guard Trevin Parks produced a game-high 27 points and four assists in the season finale win against Livingstone
Box Score Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team toppled Livingstone College 89-77 in the regular season conclusion Saturday night inside Brayboy Gymnasium. JCSU improves to 12-14 overall, 7-9 in the CIAA, and 5-5 in the Southern; while the Blue Bears fall to 9-16 overall, 5-11 in the conference, and 4-6 in the division.
The Golden Bulls went back and forth with LC until close to the seven minute mark of the first mark. Livingstone tied the game for the fifth time in the half off a jumper from Greg Henry. Junior center
Delonta Boyd (Washington, D.C.) answered on the other end with a score in the paint. Afterward, JCSU sparked a 12-2 scoring run for a double digit advantage.
Johnson C. Smith held a 43-34 lead at the break. The Golden Bulls shot an astounding 76% (19-25) from the field in the opening. All-CIAA junior guard
Trevin Parks led the way with 18 first half points off 8-of-10 shooting (80%). Boyd and redshirt senior
Calvin Smith (Auburn, AL) followed through with eight and seven points, respectively.
The second half was all JCSU, as they failed to relinquish their lead and eventually pushed it to as much as 19.
Five Golden Bulls scored double figures, including Parks with a game-high 27 points and four assists. Boyd added 13 points and eight boards. Sophomore forward
Antwan Wilkerson (Greensboro, NC) dropped in 12 points, followed by sophomore forward
Robert Williams (Atlanta, GA) and senior guard
James Otey with 10 points each. Otey also grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists.
Nasir Austin led the production for the Blue Bears with 20 points and Greg Henry pitched in 18 points and six assists.
The loss tonight by Winston-Salem State to the Fayetteville Broncos has them in a three-way tie with Livingstone in the Southern Division at 4-6. The Golden Bulls elevate to the No. 2 spot in the division at 5-5.
JCSU will await the official announcement of the 2012 CIAA Tournament Bracket for the date and time of their next matchup.
