Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team dropped their first division game to the #14 ranked Shaw University 95-76 inside Brayboy Gymnasium on Saturday night. JCSU moves to 10-10 overall, 5-5 in the CIAA, and 3-1 in the Southern; while the Bears improve to 18-2 overall, 10-0 in the conference, and 4-0 in the division.
Shaw took the enthusiastic Brayboy crowd out of the game by jumping out a double digit lead in the opening. JCSU trailed 24-12 with 12:11 on the clock after a three-pointer from Malik Alvin. The Golden Bulls faced a 52-28 deficit at halftime.
JCSU shot 32.3% (10-31) from the floor in the first, compared to 67.6% (23-34) shooting from Shaw. Junior guard

Antwan Wilkerson (Greensboro, NC) followed with six points apiece. Meanwhile, Alvin and Karron Johnson led the Bears with 19 and 16 points, respectively.
The Golden Bulls could not manage to draw closer than within 14 in the second half. By point margin, this was the worst loss of the season for JCSU.
Johnson C. Smith improved their final field goal percentage to 44% (26-59) by shooting 57% (16-28) in the second half.
Parks concluded the contest with 21 points and seven assists. Wilkerson clinched a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Otey also scored 12 points, followed by junior center
Delonta Boyd (Washington, D.C.) with 10 points and five boards.
Malik Alvin stayed hot, finishing with a game-high 36 points off 14-of-20 shooting. Johnson ended the game with 18 points and Tony Smith chipped 14 points and eight rebounds.
JCSU will try to quickly put this loss behind them with they face Fayetteville State University on Monday, February 6th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside Capel Arena on the campus of FSU. The Golden Bulls defeated the Broncos 83-75 last week inside Brayboy.
