Golden Bulls kickoff the 2012 season on Sept. 1st against WV State and at home on Sept. 15th against Concordia-Selma
Charlotte, NC – The Johnson C. Smith University Department of Athletics has released their 10-game football schedule for the 2012 season. JCSU is coming off a 6-5 year overall, 4-3 in the CIAA, and a Pioneer Bowl Championship.
The Golden Bulls will open up the season on September 1st as they travel to take on West Virginia State University in Institute, WV. JCSU sparked the 2011 season with a 64-27 home victory over the Yellow Jackets. This will be the eighth meeting all-time between the two intuitions, dating back to the 1940s. Johnson C. Smith holds a 3-2-2 record in the series.
The following week, JCSU stays on the road for a gridiron battle against Tuskegee University in the Atlanta, GA Classic on September 8th. This will be the first meeting between Johnson C. Smith and Tuskegee since their 2006 duel in the Pioneer Bowl. This will be the Golden Bulls' only evening game of the season with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. in Atlanta, GA.
JCSU will kickoff at home for the first time in 2012 on September 15th against Concordia College out of Selma, AL. This will be a first time meeting between the two schools. The Hornets of Concordia-Selma compete in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. inside the Irwin Belk Complex.
The Golden Bulls' cross divisional games will be against Virginia State at home on September 22nd and then Lincoln (PA) in Lincoln University, PA on September 29th.
Divisional play will begin against the defending CIAA Champions Winston-Salem State on October 6th in Charlotte Memorial Stadium at 2:00 p.m. JCSU follows up with back to back road games versus Fayetteville State (October 13th) and Shaw (October 20th).
Johnson C. Smith will host Homecoming 2012 on October 27th against Saint Augustine's and then close out the regular season on November 3rd as host for the Commemorative Classic against longtime rival Livingstone.
All home games this season will be played at 2:00 p.m. with the exception of homecoming and the Commemorative Classic; those two games begin at 1:00 p.m. The contest against the WSSU Rams will be the only home game played at Memorial Stadium; the other four games will be inside the Irwin Belk Complex.
